When choosing a kitchen sink there are many options available in the type of material it is made of. Some of the options include cast iron, man made materials, stainless steel, Americast and enameled steel. Kohler cast iron is what we generally reccomend if you are looking for a color as it has proven itself time and again over the years. It is usually the one that you find in a 40 year old home that is still doing its job but maybe has only lost some of its luster. Yes it is heavier than the others but its durability is hard to beat. They are available in many different configurations and styles like undercounter mount, self rimming and tile-in.
Another popular and relatively new sink are ones that are made from composite materials. Popular ones we sell are the Blanco Siligranit and Moens' Moenstone sink. Both are basically a crushed stone and resin composite. Although not as well proven as cast iron the sinks, they offer many valuable features. Stainless steel sinks are both durable and lightweight and come in a wide variety of sizes and styles. We offer Elkay and Kohler stainless sinks. These are popular for undercounter mount situations. They are offered in different gauges of steel. 18 gauge is typically the heaviest gauge for residential and undercounter mount styles are only offered in this guage. The lightest guage we sell is 22. Quality stainless depends on its nickel content and the guage. Kohler and Elkay are both excellent sinks. Although Elkay is packaging a sink that is not made by them for the chain stores like Home Depot and Lowes. This allows them to sell a sink that has the brand name Elkay on the packaging but is not made by Elkay and is in fact a lower quality sink! Enameled steel is typically used by builders as an inexpensive options when building multiple homes. Americast we do not offer and do not reccomend.
